The North Delta Ramble
As the great philosopher Jon Bon Jovi once said, "nothing is as important as passion. No matter what you want to do with your life, be passionate."
When Alan Brockman approached me to work with him, the only way I could have described him was passionate. Alan wanted to create a network - not like a news network, no, that was too depressing - a network that would show off the good; a network to show the best of what’s happening in our small town.
Alan had already been in the works to create the North Delta Network, and I became his right-hand man. For a year, we traveled all over town promoting everything we could (some that paid, and some that didn’t) and eventually we crafted a Facebook-driven network of viewers, over 3,740 followers, who could get an inside scoop to events or charities while getting beautiful content right in their feeds.
Part of Alan’s history with the NDN were these huge “barn burner” parties (called the North Delta Ramble), where he would focus on a single artist, a musician or band, and a chef. He would then create a video piece for LPB that would connect all three and end with the party.
The big challenge: do all of this as a one-man-crew. Pack gear, unload gear, set camera, set lights, mic talent, check script, shoot, edit, and repeat.
While we worked toward the purpose of completing a piece for LPB, my goal for the NDR was to create content that could stand-alone and then be connected together. Unfortunately, being a one man crew meant that production times slipped while still shooting for the NDN and my work with Alan was cut short.
We never completed our two-episode plan for LPB - but we did throw one incredible downtown party.
